2017 WSMA State Solo and Ensemble Contest

Congratulations to the High School Solo & Ensemble participants. Way to go students! There were 50 High School events that performed including instrumental and choral solos and small ensembles. The results are listed below!

Every Class A Band event has advanced to the State Contest.  There is another district level Solo and Ensemble on April 1 when another group of our high school musicians will be performing.

Instrumental Music

  Band Performance Schedule 2017-18

Junior / Senior Band
The Junior / Senior Band is open to all eleventh and twelfth grade instrumental musicians in the school. The group performs four major concerts each year and performs in Class A for the WSMA Large Group Contest. The students in this ensemble also take part in the Pep Band activities and the Marching Band performances.

The Freshmen / Sophomore Band
The Freshmen / Sophomore Band is open to all the ninth and tenth grade instrumental musicians in the school. The group performs four major concerts each year and performs at the WSMA Large Group Contest in the Class B category. The students in this ensemble also take part in the Pep Band activities and the Marching band performances.

Jazz Band

   Jazz Band Performance Schedule 2017-18
This group is the top performing ensemble in the band department. It performs throughout the year at all concerts, variety shows and a number of university competitions throughout Wisconsin and surrounding states. This group also competes in the WSMA Solo and Ensemble Competition in Class A and consistently advances to the State level for competition. Students in this group become well versed in the art of jazz and begin to further their exploration of jazz improvisation.

Robed Choir

Robed Choir is an auditioned ensemble and therefore, open to only students who go through the audition process in January and are selected per instructor. Robed Choir is open to any 10-12th grader.

Concert Dress:
Men
: Black shoes, black socks and black dress slacks. Robes will be provided.
Women: Dark shoes. Robes will be provided

Clothing must surpass the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau dress code.  We aspire to look like a class ensemble when performing.

Men and Treble Choir

Men’s Choir and Treble Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble and therefore, open to any student in grades 9-12.

Concert Dress:
Men: Black socks, black pants, black shoes, a white long-sleeve shirt, and a nice tie.
Women: Black skirt at least past the knees, darker top and preferably black shoes.

Clothing must surpass the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau dress code.  We aspire to look like a class ensemble when performing.

Extra-Curricular Vocal Music

Vocal Point

Vocal Point is an auditioned group of 16 male and female singers which rehearses every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 7:00-8:15 am. Vocal Point is a yearlong commitment that introduces many different styles of a cappella music. Vocal Point is a huge commitment and usually has close to 20 out of school performances, clinics, or competitions per school year. Dates for this group will be given only to the members of this group at a later time.

Performance Dress –  Dress will be determined by the group.  Because this is a small, auditioned ensemble it is a privilege to be selected and is important you are fully committed and dedicated to the group.
