In January, the school board made the difficult decision to close the swimming pool at the high school after the 2018 swimming season. In September the pool will be deconstructed and removed. In making this decision the board cited high costs for renovation and numerous areas necessary for repair and modernization. This decision was also supported by the district-wide survey that found that only 37% of respondents supported using school district resources to operate the pool and only 16% felt they could support a $2.5 million referendum that would renovate the existing pool to a 25 year life span. The school board is interested in supporting swimming instruction and is considering offering bussing to the Trempealeau swimming pool in the future if there is not one found locally.
Representatives from the Swimming Pool Task Force are meeting with local municipalities to see if there is support for building a new, modern pool in the area. If you are interested in joining the Swimming Pool Task Force, the next meeting will be held on February 28 at 6:30 p.m. in room #77 at the High School.
