On April 6, 2017 the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau School Board voted 7-2 on a resolution to borrow up to $6 million for athletic facility improvements.
From accepted bids the total estimated cost of the project came in at $5.038 million, significantly less than originally projected. After money set aside for capital improvements, the board will borrow $4.3 million plus financing charges which would come out to about $5 million.
The money is likely to be borrowed over a ten year period. The 2010 Referendum is what allows the board to make these payments. Even with an additional annual payment of $500,000 for the bonds, the average tax rate for the school district is anticipated to decrease from $10.28 to $10.03. On a $100,000 home, the taxpayer will pay $25.00 less next year than they did this year for school taxes.
